Kelly Clarkson made it through 2023 with many high highs — and many more low lows. Of course, she spent much of the year fighting through the aftermath of her contentious divorce from now-ex-husband Brandon Blackstock.

And seeing all that unravel in the public eye has the American Idol alum ready to get real and talk all about it in her new cover story interview with People that’s set to hit newsstands on Friday. In their chat, the Texan opened up about how writing her latest album Chemistry proved to be a pretty cathartic experience as she navigated her split from Blackstock, who was also her former manager.

Speaking about writing this latest album — her tenth studio effort in all — she said: Going on, she revealed that the album allowed her to work through some pretty significant feelings of grief and depression that, for a while, left her overwhelmed.

Kelly explained: And now that the album has been released (it went out for purchase and streaming back in late June), sending it out into the world allowed her to let go of all the pent-up despair she’d been feeling: More recently, her two children — daughter River Rose, 9, and son Remington Alexander, 7 — joined her on stage at her Vegas residency.
