It’s enough to make you weep. Kellogg’s has launched an onion-flavour breakfast cereal, 16 years after the bizarre idea won a controversial poll.
Boxes of Chaka flakes sold out in two days as cereal fans hailed a “win for democracy”, following a long campaign for Kellogg’s to honour a 2004 pledge.
The firm had asked shoppers in Korea to vote for a new flavour – chocolate Cheki cereal or green onion Chaka. Koreans went against the grain and plumped for onion.
But amid claims of vote-rigging, Kellogg’s deleted thousands of votes and Cheki won. An outcry ensued but Kellogg’s has bowed to public pressure and apologised for the delay in its TV campaign.
