A former prison officer today described a jail fight, that left a tragic young university student "terrified", as the worst she'd ever seen.Katie Allan, a "trusted" prisoner, had been serving lunches to other inmates when the "huge physical fight" broke out in her hall at Polmont Young Offenders' Institution, Stirlingshire, a fatal accident inquiry was told.
She had to be shut in a pantry as warders dealt with the aftermath.That afternoon at Sunday visiting Katie told her mother she was "petrified" at the unpredictability of the environment she was in.
She said she hadn't slept for three nights because she was being berated, shouted at, and threatened.Katie, 21, who suffered from the hair-loss condition alopecia was called "a badly bastard, a fat cow and a snob" by other inmates and told the minute she came out of her cell she'd get battered.
Shouting inmates told her "she might as well go and top herself".She was found dead in her cell on June 4th 2018, the day after the fight.
