Ben Shephard has shared an emotional update on his Good Morning Britain co-star Kate Garraway, following the tragic death of husband Derek Draper.
Ben, 49, returned to GMB on Thursday, 11 January, marking his first show since Derek passed away. He shared a message from Kate, 56, and gave an insight into how she and her two children - Darcey, 17, and Billy, 14 - are coping following Derek's passing in early January. "They are in the next stages of working out what happens. There's a lot of admin to do when you lose someone.
In that brilliant way yesterday, she said, 'I have to go out to go and register the death'," Ben told GMB viewers. He then shared a heartbreaking conversation Kate had with her daughter Darcey before she headed out to register Derek's death. "She told Darcey, 'I'm going to have to go out the house', and Darcey said, 'I know this is going to be really hard but can I make one suggestion?' She says, 'Course you can darling'.
And then Darcey said, 'Can you take the Christmas jumper off and can you brush your hair?'" Ben said. He went on to say that the "clocks stopped" for Kate and her family in December when Derek suffered a heart attack, but she's now beginning to look at the "next part of his journey".
