Here’s everything you need to know about the new series.When a zombie outbreak overtakes the streets of South Korea, Lee Jae-yoon and Kang Young-joo, having recently graduated from college and freshly broken up, are caught in the middle of chaos.As the couple are driven further apart by the zombies overtaking the city, Jae-yoon is forced to face his insecurities both as a new, clueless recruit protecting the country and as Young-joo’s love interest, as the couple go through hoardes of the undead to find each other again in more ways than one.Acclaimed Korean actor Park Jung-min, with recent appearances in Harbin and Smugglers, is set to star as Jae-yoon.
He’s a new South Korean military recruit, having enlisted years later than other soldiers. The series follows him as he is immediately put to battle following the zombie outbreak.Playing Young-joo is BLACKPINK vocalist and Snowdrop star Jisoo.
Known in college as the “goddess of the engineering department” for her looks, she is now a regular office worker who finds herself in the thick of the apocalypse.Joining the pair in the supporting cast are Im Sung-jae, Hong Seo-hee, Crash Landing On You‘s Tang Jun-sang, The World of the Married’s Lee Hak-joo as well as The Battleship Island’s Kim Jun-han.Newtopia is notably written by Parasite screenwriter Han Jin-won and A Shop For Killers‘ Ji Ho-jin.
Helming the series is Yoon Sung-hyun, who previously worked on 2010’s Bleak Night and 2020’s Time To Hunt. The first teaser for Newtopia dropped on January 15, opening with the moment Young-joo breaks up with Jae-yoon over the phone.
