Julia Bradbury teary as she says 'hardest thing' was telling her kids she had cancer

Julia Bradbury fought back tears as she recalled the moment she told her three children she had cancer on her ITV documentary Breast Cancer And Me on Thursday night.The presenter, 51, announced in September last year that she’d been diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent surgery a month later.The hour-long programme documented the star's battle showing her diagnosis, mastectomy and the support from her loved ones.

During one heartbreaking moment, Julia said the "hardest thing" she has ever gone through in her life was telling her children — son Zephyr, 10, and twins Zena and Xanthe, seven — that she had cancer.

Julia said: "For me, the most painful thing of it all was thinking of my children.The thought about leaving your children behind, the most joyful thing about motherhood is watching them develop." She added: "We didn't quite know how to tell the kids and what to tell the kids, we didn't want to say: 'Mummy's going to die', but I also didn't want to lie to them. "We decided that the best thing to do was to take them for a walk around the garden because that's where they feel comfortable and happy.

And just to be honest and say: 'Mummy's not very well and mention the cancer word.' "I remember my little girl and, I'm going to try not to cry, said: 'Can I still hug you?' and I said: 'Yes, of course you can still hug me.
