Former Manchester United midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron has revealed that he only joined the Red Devils because of his passport issues in Italy.
The Argentina legend admits that he fell in love with the club and England though where he found friends for life. Veron made the switch to United in 2001 after impressing in Italy for various clubs, but was under investigation just a year earlier amid claims he used a fake Italian passport in order to avoid the non-EU quota.
The versatile playmaker was cleared of the charge, and joined Sir Alex Ferguson’s star-studded United side. Veron became a regular and went on to help them win the Premier League in 2002/03, but never lived up to anywhere close to his full potential.
