Jack Dunn On this week’s episode of “The Daily Show,” Jon Stewart slammed Minority Leader Chuck Schumer for voting to pass a Republican-backed spending bill.

Stewart opened the segment with a news compilation featuring several Democratic senators saying the bill is “terrible” and “designed to hurt the American people.” Stewart then played a video of Schumer saying that “Republicans do not have the votes in the Senate” to pass the budget.

Important to note that if the bill was not passed, the government would be forced to shut down. “You see, Republicans, your little evil budget plan might have worked if you hadn’t forgotten that one Senator Schumer is Charles in charge of the Democratic party,” Stewart said. “I’m afraid your diabolical scheme has been foiled!” Stewart then played a news report stating that Schumer sparked outrage after announcing he would vote to pass the budget and avoid a government shutdown. “What the fuck happened?” Stewart exclaimed. “I will vote to keep the government open,” Schumer explained in a video clip. “I believe it is my job to make the best choice for the country to minimize the harm to the American people.” Stewart joked that Schumer “probably got a little something” out of his vote.

However, the late-night pundit’s assumption was immediately shut down by another news clip stating that Schumer “did not” receive any incentives for his support of the budget.
