Tributes have been paid to civil rights icon John Lewis, who has died aged 80. The congressman, one of the "Big Six" leaders alongside Dr Martin Luther King, was one of the organisers behind historic 1963 March on Washington in which Dr King gave his "I have a dream" speech.
In 1965 Mr Lewis's skull was fractured in a savage police beating as he led protesters in Selma calling for voting rights. He was a powerful voice on racism and human rights until the end of his life, last month voicing his support for the Black Lives Matter movement.
