Joe Biden tonight declared he is set to win the US election as he proclaimed: "We the people will not surrender". The Democrat contender for President said "I’m confident we will emerge victorious" in a rousing speech vowing to govern for all Americans.

He stopped short of declaring victory - but as he left the stage, CNN projected he would win the key swing state of Michigan.

If so, that would bring him to 264 out of the 270 Electoral College votes he needs to become America's 46th President. He is tipped to win Nevada tomorrow, which would bring him to 270 exactly.
