For most 72-year-olds with zero skating experience the prospect of stripping off naked on ice would be, er, chilling to say the least.

But former jump jockey Bob Champion has cleared bigger hurdles. Diagnosed with testicular cancer at 31, he was given a 30% chance of survival.

But he underwent gruelling and revolutionary treatment to not only make a full recovery but to win the Grand National just 18 months later, creating one of the greatest sporting fairy tales of all time.

And when he was given the chance to raise awareness about cancer by taking part in The Real Full Monty on Ice, he jumped at it. “They asked me if I’d do the Full Monty, I thought ‘well, should I?’.
