Sir Jim Ratcliffe is hopeful his bid for a stake in Man United goes through before the January transfer window.The billionaire has submitted an offer to buy a 25 per cent stake in the Old Trafford club from the unpopular Glazer family.
That's set to set him back a cool £1.4billion, although he has stipulated that he would take over the running of football operations from the Americans.
That will be music to fans ears, who have become fed up with scattergun transfer policies and repeated failures to land top targets as United have fallen well behind their rivals Manchester City in the chase for trophies, especially the Premier League title and Champions League, both of which City won last season.
However, United fans have long wanted the Glazers gone completely and have been waiting for news of their departure for months after they entertained bids from Ratcliffe and Sheik Jassim.
