The college where Jay Slater was studying has paid tribute to a 'hard-working apprentice with a bright future'. Headteachers of schools the teenager attended have also issued tributes after confirmation his body has been found a month after he went missing in Tenerife.

It comes as 19 year-old Jay's mum, Debbie Duncan, said the family's hearts were 'broken' after a Spanish court confirmed his death and said his multiple injuries were consistent with a fall in a rocky area. A spokesman for the court said the post-mortem examination report determined that the injuries he sustained were consistent with an accidental fall.

Jay, from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, was studying as an apprentice bricklayer at Accrington and Rossendale College. The college said it was 'deeply saddened' to hear the news of his death and described Jay as a 'hard-working apprentice with a very bright future ahead of him'. "Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him," said the college in a statement reported by the BBC.
