Comedian Janey Godley has passed away at the age of 63, three years after her cancer diagnosis. Her manager confirmed the sad news, followed by her daughter Ashley Storrie's touching video message on social media.
Ashley expressed gratitude to the hospice staff for making her comedian mother's "scary transition so peaceful." In the time leading up to Janey's death, Ashley became her voice, keeping followers updated on social media about her courageous mum's battle.
Janey had moved to a hospice early last month. Just days before Janey's passing, Ashley spoke of her mother being "in the final beats of life" and – in a tragic twist – shared her pride as Janey received an honorary degree from the University of Glasgow, posting a photo of her with the certificate in bed.The heartfelt post said: "Thank you @UofGlasgow for bestowing upon my mum the honorary degree of doctor of the University of Glasgow.This has brought her so much joy in the final beats of her life.
Janey is so honoured and I am so immensely proud of her. I am always proud of her.Thank you for all your kindness and support to our family in this very difficult time." The University of Glasgow responded warmly: "It is an honour to bestow an honorary doctorate on the incredible Dr Godley.
