People lined the streets of Edinburgh as Scottish comedian Janey Godley's hearse travelled through the city on its way to her funeral service, which will be held in Glasgow on Saturday, 30 November.The star, who passed away on 2 November at a hospice at the age of 63, was best known for her hilarious Nicola Sturgeon impressions.
Janey's hearse was showered with roses as hundreds of fans gathered to watch it travel along Edinburgh’s Royal Mile.The hearse paused outside St Giles’ Cathedral, where a minute’s silence was held and the all-female 100-piece Sound House Choir sang a number of songs in tribute to the star.To applause from the crowd, the choir sang Movin’ On Up by Primal Scream and One Day Like This by Elbow.
Fans held banners and flags emblazoned with phrases the comedian was known for.The hearse was accompanied by Janey's close friend Shirley Doig and Janey's daughter, Ashley Storrie, had described the journey as her mother’s “final tour, in the two cities she loved with all her heart”.
Janey bravely shared her ovarian cancer diagnosis with the world in November 2021. After a brief period of remission in 2022, she devastatingly revealed that another scan had detected the disease in her abdomen.This led to the cancellation of her planned tour this autumn due to her stage four ovarian cancer diagnosis.
