Jamie Laing, from Made in Chelsea, has responded to the backlash following the announcement that he will be replacing Jordan North on BBC Radio 1's Going Home Show. The going home show is aired between 3:30pm and 6pm every weekday, and Jamie will be joining presenter Vick Hope.

After BBC Radio 1 shared the news, many listeners took to social media to express their dismay, with one writing: "A person from a working class background who worked their a**e off to attempt to achieve their dream of being a radio presenter is more deserving of the opportunity." While another added: "When Nick [Grimshaw] went it was so sad, when Scott [Mills] and Chris [Moyles] left at the same time it hurt, when Annie Mac left, it was heartbreaking, Jordan North leaving is painful, if and when Greg [James] leaves as I feel it's soon, it'll feel like a death and Radio 1 will die." Jamie was quick to share a rather critical comment about his new radio role, which read: "You're kidding Jamie Laing.

Who on this earth would want to listen to his pompous nonsense. We need Meritocracy brought back in order for ordinary people to stand any chance of being considered." The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant poked fun at the backlash, responding: "[First] comment in and might be a bit too truthful...probably stop there for the day." But not everyone is against Jamie's move into national radio as his famous mates swamped his announcement post on Instagram where he shared a picture of himself beaming in front of Radio 1's logo.

Oliver Proudlock wrote: "My boy. So incredibly proud of you. YEAH BABY!" Sam Thompson, Dianne Buswell, Oti Mabuse and Zoe Sugg, were also among those sharing their joy.
