Shaun Wallace, one of the original stars of The Chase, reportedly lost a significant sum when the show was in its infancy. Shaun, who joined the show in 2009 alongside fellow Chaser Mark Labbett, was balancing his time on the quiz show with his career as a criminal defence barrister.
Mark Labbett has opened up about the financial struggles they faced early on. In an interview with the Daily Mail, he revealed: "Shaun and I both lost money at first. "We earned just £100 a show and had to take time away from our better-paid jobs to do it.
Shaun lost thousands." Before becoming a TV quiz personality, Mark's career was primarily in education, having worked as a maths and PE supply teacher after graduating from Oxford University.
According to the BBC, he was still teaching in 2007. The success of The Chase was not always a sure thing, with ITV executives initially concerned about its potential.
