The Chase star Anne Hegerty was once snubbed for a pub quiz team, with her mum being invited instead. The TV quizzer first graced our screens as a contestant on Mastermind in 1988, but it wasn't until 2010 when she joined The Chase that her career really took off.She recently revealed that she had aspirations to appear on TV even earlier, dreaming of participating in a show called Ask the Family.
However, Anne's mother was "snooty" and declined to participate in the programme.According to the 66-year-old, her mother didn't want her to delve into competitive quizzing, fearing she would become a "pushy" parent.
Anne's decision to intensify her quizzing and appear on Mastermind seemed to have an unexpected effect on her life. On the Tell Us About Yourself podcast, Anne disclosed: "I found it frustrating that after I'd been on Mastermind, that the people who lived in her village invited her to join their local pub quiz team." "Nobody invited me to join the local pub quiz team, it was just my mum.
So she played in that for a few years. But I did feel it would be nice if my mum encouraged me to do such things."A young Anne also expressed her wish to have appeared on another TV show during her youth, called Top of the Form.
