While City and United might be facing disappointing seasons, there’s one Manchester football club going from strength to strength.

West Didsbury and Chorlton FC’s men’s team are currently fifth in the north west counties premier division, occupying the final play-off spot in the ninth tier of English football.

The women’s team is also fifth, in the north west women’s regional premier league — the fifth tier of the female game. Supporter numbers have swelled in recent years, with men’s matches attracting several hundred on Saturdays, meaning West are ‘one of the UK’s top-100 supported non-league clubs’, according to Beverley Moss.

But not everyone is pleased with the club’s success. The third row between the team and neighbours since 2021 came to a conclusion on Thursday (January 23).
