Manchester Airports Group (MAG) announced that 465 jobs at Manchester Airport would be axed. In a statement, they said the recent spike in the virus, combined with 'an absence of dedicated support for the sector' and a lack of testing for UK passengers, had undermined passenger confidence in air travel.Overall passenger demand, they said, was not expected to recover before 2023-24.The latest round of redundancies comes after a further 1,543 roles were put at risk by external airport contractors since March.Nearly 800 of those job losses will come from ground-handling firm Swissport, with a further 300 potential cuts from Menzies.A major proportion of those employed by MAG, and other airport firms, live in Wythenshawe, as well as other parts.
