A young man has been left with irreversible eye damage after a family Bonfire Night incident. Connor McKenna-West and his fiance Carl hosted a Bonfire Night party for 25 friends and family members in Coulby, Newham.
The couple enjoyed a DIY display with their friends but kept some fireworks aside to enjoy with their close family at the end of the evening.
But when Connor, 25, attempted to light the fuse of a rocket it exploded in his face, shattering his right eye. He was rushed to James Cook University Hospital with shrapnel wounds to his face and had to undergo a four-hour-long surgery that resulted in his right eye being removed, Teesside Live reports.
