Instagram to punish users who share TikToks to Reels by giving their profiles less likes

Instagram users who post clips from TikTok will soon get less views and likes on the platform.Instagram boss Adam Mosseri took to Twitter to announce that the popular social media app will begin ranking its content for originality, in an apparent bid to stop content from TikTok being recycled on the platform.In particular, Instagram want people to post more original content to Reels, the platform's short video format which mimics the quick, vertical-scrolling video clip format of TikTok.It appears that Instagram's algorithm will now begin to downrank content from 'aggregator' accounts that repost other peoples' work, and instead push more original posts towards its users.Mosseri said: "If you create something from scratch, you should get more credit than if you are re-sharing something that you found from someone else."We're going to try and do more to try and value original content more, particularly compared to reposted content."Some of the most popular content on Instagram Reels is reposted TikTok videos, with many clips even including the TikTok logo.Mosseri also took the time to announce the addition of enhanced tags for posts and products as Instagram expands its shop function.The new updates are the latest in a series of big changes to the Instagram app.Last month, Instagram brought back the chronological newsfeed feature after years of demand.The app added two new ways to choose what you see in your Instagram feed, 'Favourites' and 'Following'.Favourites lets you view posts from your favourite accounts, whether that's family, friends, or just accounts you like.'Following', meanwhile, shows new posts from everyone you follow in the order they were posted..
