It's been 70 years since the last coronation, that of the late Queen Elizabeth II, meaning it's the first time that many in the country will have seen such a spectacle.
And it won't just be King Charles who will be playing a prominent role in the ceremony, with Queen Consort Camilla being crowned alongside him, and a number of other royals also set to play important parts.
Here are the plans which have been revealed so far... Queen Camilla Camilla will be crowned Queen Consort in the same ceremony that her husband will be crowned King, and while Charles will be wearing St Edward’s Crown, she will be wearing the Crown of Queen Mary. The use of Queen Mary's crown is something of a break from recent tradition, as all British Queen Consorts in the 20th Century wore their own crowns created for the ceremony. This tradition began with Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen, the consort of King William IV, who had a new crown created for her 1830 coronation.
