Lulu has opened up about the drastic lifestyle choices after a frightening diagnosis from her doctor. The Scots singer, 74, has always been health conscious after losing her Glasgow-born mother to stomach cancer at the age of 68.
As well as that tragedy, Lulu's father Eddie passed away from high cholesterol, prompting her to monitor her own which lead to a shocking discovery. “My GP told me that I had raised cholesterol," the singer told the Daily Star. "That really frightened me, as it's one of the biggest risk factors for coronary heart disease. The diagnosis caused her to reflect on her father's death, and she said: "My father's death - at the age of 71 - was terrible.
I loved him dearly. He had worked in the meat market in Glasgow for years and was a great singer."Unfortunately, he didn't really take care of his body and he'd had plenty of health warnings that he ignored."So even though I've always tried to look after myself, when I discovered that I had raised cholesterol, memories of my dad's illness spurred me on and I made sure that I did something about it."Following the frightening diagnosis, Lulu made significant changes to her diet in an effort to lower her cholesterol.
The iconic singer threw away the ice-cream from her freezer, and stopped putting butter on sandwiches in a bid to make health conscious choices.
