Kate and her kids looked after him during his four-year health fight with the help of several carers, costing £16,000 a month.
The strain of looking after her husband Derek, who sadly passed away in January aged 56, became so overwhelming for Good Morning Britain host Kate, also 56, that she ended up in hospital as her own mental and physical health suffered because of Derek's condition and its effect on her family and children, daughter Darcey, 18, and son Billy, 15.
Derek's Story, which was shown on ITV, gave viewers a glimpse into the former politician's tragic final year with his family while battling his illness.
