The Queen was the victim of a prank during a 2006 tour of Australia, which left her horrified. It was unexpected as the joke was allegedly played by her right-hand woman and dresser Angela Kelly.

Angela saw an opportunity to have some fun when the Queen revealed she'd love to see a kookaburra during her trip down under, but wasn't having any luck.

During a trip to a Sydney market, Angela sourced a kookaburra bird toy. "I had something in mind I thought the Queen would enjoy," said Angela of her purchase in her book The Queen, The Dresser and the Wardrobe.

She placed the toy inside a cage, which was on the Queen's room balcony. Once everything was set up, she called out to the Queen to come see the "funny looking grey bird" she'd spotted. The Queen fell for the trick hook, line and sinker exclaiming, "It's a kookaburra!" before crying out, "No, don't do that - it will fly away" when Angela went to open the door.
