Film Movement has acquired U.S. rights to Maciek Hamela’s In the Rearview, winner of well over a dozen awards at film festivals around the world, including the top prize at Sheffield DocFest.
The film, a visceral account of Ukrainian families trying to make it to safety across the Polish border after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, will get a U.S.
theatrical release and an Oscar push for Best Documentary Film. Hamela and producer Piotr Grawender are currently in Amsterdam for the Dutch premiere of In the Rearview at IDFA.
The film is playing in the Best of Fests section, which is reserved for what the festival considers to be the best documentaries of the year.
