Former Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has insisted that the Blues' Premier League titles were 'won on the pitch and through merit' after the club were accused of more than 100 separate financial fair play breaches.
A statement from the Premier League has said alleged breaches were committed across nine different seasons beginning in 2009/10.
Should City be found guilty of the breaches by an independent commission, they could face a potential range of sanctions, including expulsion from the top flight.
There are several other possible punishments, with a points deduction, transfer bans, spending limits and even the stripping of previous titles all being touted as realistic possibilities, if the club are indeed found guilty.
