UK chicken factory including blocked drains and a disconnected wash basin have been exposed following an environmental health inspection. But after being ordered to stop trading immediately the factory decided to carry on working, leading to the company and its owner now being forced to hand over £8,700.

Shocked environmental health officers discovered filthy rotting walls, blocked and damaged drains and even a disconnected sink in the chicken cutting room, Manchester Evening News reports.

Boola Halal Limited, situated in Oldham, was operating without the permission of the Food Standards Agency. The illegal factory, which supplies chicken to takeaways and restaurants, had several damaged walls inside the walk-in chiller which allowed the internal insulation to be exposed.

A refuse area in the factory was also dirty next to a blocked drain that was causing water to back up. The company, who is now trading as Singlemorn UK Limited, was slammed with a remedial action notice which required it to stop operating immediately. But the business decided to ignore the order and carried on working which led to their director, Sajjad Hussain, 32, to plead guilty to four charges under Food Safety and Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013.
