Years before Wicked became a musical on Broadway, there were discussions to turn the story into a movie and it would have been so different than the musical we all love and know. “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West,” a novel by Gregory Maguire, was originally released in 1995 and many people in Hollywood immediately noticed the potential to adapt the story into a film.

Vanity Fair has published a very interesting report that details all of the names that were attached to Wicked back in the 90s.
