Iconic Hogmanay celebration returns as popular Lanarkshire Bonfire event given the green light

A Lanarkshire town has been given the go-ahead for the return of its iconic Hogmanay celebration.The Biggar Bonfire will once again be the showpiece on New Year's Eve after organisers were granted their entertainments licence by South Lanarkshire Council.The annual tradition has not taken place since before the pandemic.

Last year the plug was pulled just days before amidst fears of the Omicron variant transmitting through the region.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

The Bonfire will be lit at 9.30pm.Thousands are expected to turn out for the highly-anticipated tradition.However in recent years, safety concerns have been raised over the site used for the Bonfire.The site was a major concern as there is a gas main directly beneath where the fire would take place.But a successful campaign soon gained the council's approval, and this year an official entertainers licence was granted to organisers.Last week, the
