Lanarkshire town to star in new TV series

Larkhall is set to feature in the popular BBC Scotland series My Kind of Town.Featuring Ian Hamilton and his guide dog Major, the show takes a fresh perspective on some of Scotland’s towns, with the focus shifting to the Lanarkshire town in the third programme of the series.During the programme, Ian learns all about the town's traditional association with mining, weaving and textiles and how well placed it is for rail and road links to Glasgow while being surrounded by beautiful countryside.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

He also finds out how the local school is giving extra support to Gypsy and Traveller children.The Larkhall District Volunteer Group also features in the programme and shows their focus on elderly people in the town, and at their centre Ian meets up with head chef Tuoyo Ayiku to find out ‘what’s cooking’.He also visits the attractive Applebank Inn, on the banks of the Avon.

It is one of the oldest pubs in Scotland and is also deemed to be one of the most haunted pubs in Britain. With local resident Tommy McPhee, Ian tours some cottages and streets, which date back
