Remember when a hairdryer was just a bog-standard gadget that blew hot air onto soggy hair? I do. One of my abiding childhood memories involves an ancient beast of a dryer with one setting (scalp scorching) and casing hefty enough to give you concussion.
Now, of course, hairdryers are shiny, tiny creatures with space-age tech. Forget arm ache – the only strain you’re likely to experience involves your bank balance.
Because unfortunately this new breed of ultra-light superdryers come with an astonishingly heavy price tag. Six years ago, I thought Dyson’s Supersonic was a brilliant, game-changing one-off. £300+ for a dryer was a seriously niche market, right?
Wrong. Prestige hair tools have skyrocketed ever since, and show no sign of coming back to earth. The latest to hit the UK is the £329 (!) Zuvi Halo, which is being called “the Tesla of haircare”.
