A female pianist rejected by BBC and music chiefs is now on the Radio 3 playlist – after posing as a man. Annabel Bennett wrote 350 original pieces in nine years but “got nowhere” so she began calling herself “Arthur Parker” instead.
She said: “I spent several months submitting work to the BBC under my own name with no success. It was the same with all the other institutions. “I sent the same stuff in as Arthur and the BBC are now playing it all the time.” Eventually Annabel, 50, owned up to host Sarah Gosling when she bumped into her in a ladies’ loo.
She added: “Sarah’s been very supportive. She did say she would have played my music whether I was a man or woman.” What is your view?
