We're all quite used to hearing advice from Martin Lewis these days, but he rarely goes as far as to label something a 'demon appliance'.

Yet that's exactly how he's labelled tumble dryers - and it's due to how much money they cost to run. During an episode of The Martin Lewis Podcast, he said consumers should avoid using the appliances, which can cost of up to £1 per hour to use.

Instead he suggests using a cheaper alternative to dry clothes, in the form of a dehumidifer. Now I've definitely cut back on the use of my tumble dryer over the last year or so and don't use the central heating as much as we used to.
