She’s only been on Strictly Come Dancing for five minutes but actress Sarah Hadland has already found herself in tears – of joy!

The Miranda star, 53, is dancing with Vito Coppola and this weekend they will perform a quickstep to Dolly Parton’s classic 9 To 5.

Sarah has been a huge fan of the series since it started in 2004 and was overwhelmed when she saw herself in a Strictly costume for the very first time. “I loved it so much, I cried when I first put it on,” confides Sarah. “In fittings, the dress is just squares of Lycra with safety pins, and you think, ‘Wow, this isn’t the glamour I expected.’ But when you finally try it on, it’s just so, so beautiful. The beading, the sequins, the fringing, the tassels… it’s like a piece of art.” As an actress, Sarah has dressed up for many red carpets but nothing has ever felt quite as glittery as Strictly. “When you do red carpets or photo shoots, you get to be very glam, but this is a different level.

I don’t think you can even categorise it as glam, Strictly is its own thing. There is nothing like it.” Sarah was delighted at the Strictly Come Dancing launch show to find that head make-up designer Lisa Armstrong and head hairdresser Lisa Davey were transforming her. “Lisa Armstrong and Lisa Davey did my hair and make-up, which felt really special, because they’re both heads of department there, and I’ve always loved their work.
