A rare 'parade' of planets, an event that occurs only once every few years, is set to illuminate the skies. Stargazers will be hoping to see six planets from our solar system lined up in the night sky tonight.

In an extraordinary display, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Venus will be seen with the naked eye, while those with telescopes may also be able to spot Uranus and Neptune joining the cosmic line-up.

According to experts, it's quite uncommon to have six planets visible at the same time. In fact, it happens perhaps just once every few years.

The Royal Observatory says the best night to view the four-planet parade is January 21, from just after sunset until around 9pm.
