Manchester United missed out on signing Nathan Ake from Bournemouth, with the majority of their transfer budget to be used in their pursuit of Jadon Sancho.
The Red Devils are interested in signing a new centre-back and they were looking at signing Ake to partner club captain Harry Maguire.As a left-footed defender, Ake would have slotted in perfectly alongside Maguire but United's desire to sign Sancho meant they needed to raise funds before making a move for the Dutchman.
They have been unable to sell Marcos Rojo and Manchester City have swooped in and signed Ake for £41m as they bid to strengthen their back line.
