Music legend Lionel Richie is a doting father to his three kids, Nicole Richie, Miles Brockman Richie and Sofia Richie. However, he shares a very special bond with his oldest daughter Nicole, who he adopted when she was just nine years old with his then-wife Brenda Harvey.
According to Lionel, 73, Nicole changed his life. Her biological parents were friends of Richie's who were struggling financially. "Nicole was actually a godsend.
She was a little girl who needed a shot," he said in an interview with People. "She was used to people coming and going. She looked at me and I'd say, 'I'm not going anywhere.'" In 1983, Lionel Richie attended a Prince concert in Los Angeles where he first saw Nicole, who was only two years old at the time.
She was playing the tambourine on stage with Prince, which caught Lionel's attention. He later discovered that she was the daughter of musician Peter Escovedo and Karen Moss, who worked for Peter’s sister, singer Sheila Escovedo, better known as Sheila E.
