Nikki Sanderson has opened up about the "very very bad depression" she endured back in her 20s. The Hollyoaks and ex Corrie star, 36, joined the hit soap as Sarah Platt's BFF Candice Stowe aged 15, before leaving aged 21.

She admitted that it was at around that time when her mental health began to take a toll on her. She told the Daily Mirror: "If I go from a busy lifestyle to nothingness it’s very hard. "It’s bad for my mental health, feeling empty, so I try to keep my mind motivated.

I suffered depression in my 20s and it was a very, very, bad time." She added: "I’m lucky my mind is healthy now. But I have to stay busy to avoid the feeling of a lull. "I’m fortunate I always have someone at the end of the phone." Nikki was in awe of the
