Hollyoaks accidentally announces latest star to quit soap amid cast cull
ok.co.ukThe Channel 4 soap, Hollyoaks, is having a huge shake-up in 2024.The episode numbers are dropping, and reports say ‘20 characters’ will be axed during a time jump twist set to air later this year.The soap has already lost three huge actors in the last three months, Owen Warner (Romeo Nightingale), Jamie Lomas (Warren Fox) and Ross Adams (Scott Drinkwell).
It’s unclear whether they were part of the axing or left of their own accord. However, the release of a new ITVBe show, Drama Queens, has accidentally revealed the latest star to quit the soap - and she’s a big character.
Popstar Jamelia, who plays Sharon Bailey, has confirmed she’s leaving the show through a press release from ITV.The Drama Queens release said: "Jamelia embarks on a transformative journey, prioritising her own well-being and family over the glitz of Hollyoaks. "As she prepares to bid farewell to the show, we witness her emotional transition, packing up her life in the UK to start anew in Dubai, all while cherishing the bond with her four daughters." Drama Queens will also star EastEnders legend Rita Simons, Corrie’s Ellie Leach and Emmerdale's Amy Walsh.
Hollyoaks hit the headlines on 27 March with reports that the show would be cutting a huge number of cast. A source told The Sun: “Losing 20 cast members in one fell swoop is eye-watering and devastating news for soapland. “In the past, Hollyoaks has seen shock stunts claim up to five lives in a single episode. “But the days of soaps having a big cast clear-out with a devastating stunt are long gone, especially on Hollyoaks where the budget has been dramatically cut.” Last year Hollyoaks was axed from Channel 4, but continued to air on E4 and streaming services.
