HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has issued an apology to customers after closing its phone lines due to a 'technical issue'. The government tax department posted an update to followers on social media explaining that the helplines were down but customers could still access HMRC's online services.
Shortly after midday on Tuesday, November 12, HMRC said on X, formerly Twitter: "We’re sorry that we’ve had to temporarily close our helplines.

Asked by one customer if they knew when the lines would reopen, HMRC said just after 2.30pm: "We don't have a time yet." Customers aired their frustrations as they waited for the issue to be resolved.
