An authentic Scottish roll being sold at a Greater Manchester market is splitting opinion on social media. With an overcooked, black crust and airy and chewy inside, the ‘heavy fired’ roll has been a staple in bakeries and newsagents in Scotland for decades.
Also known as the ‘well-fired roll’, pictures of the striking delicatessen now sold at the Bread Stall in Hyde Indoor Market have been shared on a local Facebook groups to a polarising opinion.
Some residents have described the baked good as ‘beautiful’ and addictive, while others have opted to stay clear making fun of its look and even calling it dangerous.
One woman described how popular the roll has become in her household, describing it as addictive, she said: "These are beautiful, Jesus.
