A devastated teenager has described his desperate efforts to save a friend who drowned in a river last week. Tragic Adam Kaye, 14, died after jumping into the River Irwell during hot weather last Tuesday.
His pal Matthew Houseman jumped in after him, but was unable to pull him to safety. Matthew, also 14, told the Manchester Evening News that he watched his friend take his last gasp of air as he desperately fought to stay above the water.
The teens were out with friends in Clifton Country Park, Greater Manchester, when Adam jumped into the water and never came out.
It sparked a huge search operation and the park was quickly evacuated. Tragically, his body was found just a short time later.
