Nutritional expert Tim Spector says that coffee is actually a 'health drink' with plenty of benefits - despite it being 'demonised'.

The popular beverage has been criticised for having a short-term impact on heart rate and blood pressure. But Spector, who is professor of genetic epidemiology at King's College London and co-founder of the health app Zoe, has highlighted the benefits of coffee.

He joined coffee expert James Hoffmann on a new ZOE podcast where he explained the drink is packed full of essential nutrients and a surprising amount of fibre, reports GloucestershireLive.

Studies have also shown that it could reduce the risk of heart attacks by 25%. And Prof Spector added that he is working on a scientific paper on coffee and the gut microbiome, and how interactions between the two can reduce our blood pressure and blood sugar.
