A guide dog was attacked at a busy train station when another unaccompanied dog ran up and mauled it around the face, a terrified owner has recalled.Helen Kennedy was in Belfast for an appointment when her nine-year-old Labrador Retriever Rigbsy was set upon by the other animal in the city's Great Victoria Street station.

Belfast Live reports she tried to fend of the animal and was helped by other members of the public - one person also being bitten by the dog.The former horse trainer who lost her sight to glaucoma had a friend help her take companion Rigsby to the vets where they found puncture wounds to his face, stretching from just above his left eye to below the jaw.Helen, from outside Bangor in Co Down, said: "I don’t think I’ll ever get over it.

It was the most terrifying moment of my life. I heard pitter patter of feet and I knew they were going so fast that the dog couldn't have been on a lead.“This dog came up to Rigsby and I called out to ask whoever owned the dog to get him on a lead.

But no one came forward and the dog started on Rigsby as I tried to shield him but then the dog just launched onto my guide dog and latched onto his face, growling and thrashing."Poor Rigsby did nothing, I was calling for help and literally within a couple of seconds people had grabbed the dog but it wouldn’t let go of Rigsby.
