A Greater Manchester Police officer who had a secret sexual relationship with an alleged rape victim was told by a judge to expect a 'prison sentence' after he was convicted of two offences.
A jury today took just two hours and 20 minutes to unanimously find Simon Rose, 48, guilty of misconduct in public office and attempting to pervert the course of justice following a nine day trial.
Rose, a serving police constable, was attached to the Salford division of GMP. The convictions leave his career in tatters. The police watchdog said Rose would now face disciplinary proceedings arranged by the force Rose, who appeared shocked at the jury's verdicts, was released on bail ahead of a sentencing hearing in April.
But Judge David Swinnerton, sitting at Liverpool Crown Court, told him: "This will be met with a prison sentence because we have to have trust in our police officers and where they breach that trust, prison will follow." A psychiatric report was ordered ahead of sentencing.
