Ella Watts attended the A&E department at The Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan with flu-like symptoms, chest pain, vomiting and diarrhoea in December 2018.
She was triaged as a category three patient, and decided to return home after being told she would not be seen for four hours.
But the 17-year-old's condition deteriorated, and the next day she was admitted to a different hospital with acute kidney injury secondary to sepsis – when the body attacks itself in response to an infection, reports LancsLive.
