A grandmother was left in shock after being slapped with a £500 fine for 'fly-tipping' when she left a bag of clothes next to an overflowing charity donation bin.

Susan Cowdery, 66, had gone to a British Heart Foundation collection point, but found it full. Thinking it would soon be emptied, she placed her bags beside the bin, only to later receive a letter from the council accusing her of fly-tipping and demanding payment.

Expressing her dismay, the OAP who is known for picking up litter in her local area said: "I was shocked, and I went back to them and said I wasn't fly-tipping. "I thought because it's full-up it's probably going to be collected soon.

I abhor fly-tipping and fly-tippers. I am a responsible citizen who regularly clears litter from my roadside area." Despite appealing to Dartford council on August 27 to revoke the fine, they only extended the deadline for payment, refusing to cancel it.
