The government has told patients that there is not enough evidence to suggest that that taking ibuprofen could make someone more likely to get coronavirus or make the symptoms worse for patients.
Early studies had suggested that it could aggravate the condition and last month the NHS advised patients against taking the painkiller because of the risks.
But now the Commission on Human Medicines has published its findings concluding there is currently insufficient evidence to establish a link It follows research from King’s College London who analysed 89 studies on other coronavirus strains including SARS, to find out if pain medications should be avoided.
